The Richland County Library will hold a grand opening for the newly renovated and reconfigured Richland Library St. Andrews (2916 Broad River Road) during a celebration from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15. The event includes activities, music and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

T
he 13,000 square-foot structure, located at 2916 Broad River Road, offers customers improved access to technology with more hardwired computers for children, teens and adults, additional laptops and access to multiple outlets to "plug in," interactive and expanded spaces for children and teens to learn, create and share, and exterior improvements with a public art piece.

It also features enhanced spaces, which include:
  • CAREER COACHING CENTER: Meet one-on-one with career coaches for assistance with résumés, job applications, career assessment or interview strategies. Customers can also use this space to enhance technology skills through basic, intermediate and advanced classes.
  • CHILDREN'S AREA: Inspire lifelong learning. Get your kids ready for kindergarten or build reading muscles in our new Children's Area. Hang out in the built-in reading nooks or use one of our dedicated kids' computers.
  • LAPTOP BAR: Great minds come together in this open and interactive space. Bring your own laptop or check out one from us.
  • LIVING ROOM: Read a book or connect with friends and neighbors in this comfortable space overlooking the gardens.
  • MAKERSPACE: Tinker, experiment and create with tools in both guided and open lab sessions.
  • MEETING SPACES: Learn, create and share in flexible spaces that support community collaboration, small group discussions and more.
  • PATIO: Step outside and enjoy the fresh air in our spacious gardens. Enjoy a book or use your laptop in our comfortable outdoor seating area.
  • PICK-UP WINDOW: In a hurry? Pick up your holds without getting out of your car.
  • TEEN AREA: Game, create and hang out in a space just for teens.
The upgrades are part of the more than $4.5 million project that was planned for the St. Andrews location, made possible by Richland County residents with the passage of a $59 million bond referendum back in 2013.
