The Midlands Technical College Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society chapter received six awards at the PTK centennial conference in Kansas City, Mo. The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.

The MTC chapter received the following awards:

• Paragon Award for New Advisors – Sara Oswald

• Alumni Appreciation Award – Michael Mills

• Distinguished College Project Award

• Distinguished Chapter Award

• Five Star Chapter Plan Award

• Top 100 Chapter Award

MTC’s PTK chapter also received 16 regional awards at the PTK Carolinas Region Conference in Myrtle Beach earlier this year.

Wendy Samuel, an MTC chapter advisor and MTC alumna, was selected as the South Carolina 2018 PTK Advisor of the Year.

“The recognition of PTK advisors in South Carolina just started last year, and I am proud that Wendy Samuel is one of the first South Carolina PTK advisors to be recognized with this state-level recognition,” said Sandi Oliver, MTC’s vice president for Student Development Services. “Having one of the top Phi Theta Kappa chapters in the country and a strong PTK advisor such as Wendy allows MTC to provide the type of academic honors programming that supports student excellence in academic and career pursuits.”

“I am honored to have the opportunity to work with these students,” said Samuel. “Their dedication and hard work is an inspiration. I could not be more proud to have watched them grow and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lifetimes.”
