The Root Cellar, located in the heart of Lexington, announces the hire of a new executive chef, Steven Poots. The announcement was made by Blair and Ashley Sims, co-owners of the popular southern cuisine restaurant.

“Ashley and I are excited to have someone on board with Steven’s passion and flair for creating delectable and savory cuisine options,” said Blair.

Ashley added, “His experience and background as a chef at the famed Augusta National Golf Club as well as other prestigious restaurants gives us the ability to add some exciting new menu options to our already popular dishes. We know new and current customers will be thrilled with what he literally brings to the table”.

Poots brings to The Root Cellar an extensive career in the food industry, including a long and storied career at the famed Augusta National Golf Club, where he perfected his culinary skills during six Master’s Tournaments. In addition to his six-year stint as chef at Augusta National, Poots served as sous chef at The Nassau Country Club on Long Island, N.Y. as well as at the exclusive farm-to-table Alllium Restaurant in Boston, Mass., where he served as sous chef and culinary team manager.

“I’m excited about this next chapter in my culinary journey and am happy that the skills and experience I bring to the restaurant will both complement and elevate the dining experience at The Root Cellar”, said Poots.

A Columbia native, Poots graduated from Dutch Fork High School and the culinary program at Augusta Tech.
