Jan 07, 2019 11:10AM ● By Kathleen Maris

Burr & Forman LLP announced that it successfully completed its transaction with Carolinas-based McNair Law Firm, P.A. With this expansion, no other Am Law 200 law firm has more offices in the Southeast, offering clients greater accessibility and service innovation throughout the region. Combined revenue from 2018 data would have placed the firm among the top 150 law firms on the Am Law 200 list.

The acquisition solidifies Burr & Forman’s position in the fastest-growing region in the country as a full-service Southeastern-based law firm with transactional, litigation, and regulatory capabilities, creating a platform to better serve clients and deepen the firm’s bench in key practices and industries.

McNair’s 84 attorneys join Burr & Forman from seven offices across North Carolina and South Carolina to create a stronger and more diverse full-service firm with 360 attorneys, expanding the firm’s footprint to 19 offices across eight states. The Carolina-based offices will operate as Burr Forman McNair for a period of two years to leverage the strength of the McNair brand and reputation.

“We are excited to officially welcome our new team members at McNair,” said Ed Christian, chief executive officer at Burr & Forman. “Our presence in the Carolinas solidifies Burr & Forman’s ability to provide representation in markets where our clients regularly conduct business. The addition of McNair’s talented attorneys expands our breadth of service in the manufacturing, transportation, banking, finance, public finance, food and beverage, hospitality, real estate, and health care industries.”

The newly expanded firm provides clients with a dedicated team of legal professionals in the areas of economic development, government relations, intellectual property, cybersecurity, labor and employment, mergers and acquisitions, public finance, real estate, tax, and trust and estates.

“This acquisition serves to deepen the bench and accelerate growth opportunities for both our clients and our team in the Carolinas and throughout the Southeast. Specifically, we see an immediate benefit from our combined strengths in terms of both industries and practice areas,” said David Tigges, who previously served as chief executive officer of McNair and joined Burr & Forman’s Executive Committee as the Carolinas managing partner.
