United Way of the Midlands announced that it has received a grant from the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, to fund WellPartners Adult Eye Clinic.

“The funds will allow us to continue providing eye care to adults in the Midlands who are uninsured or underinsured through WellPartners Adult Eye Clinic,” said Sara Fawcett, president and CEO of United Way of the Midlands. “We know that nearly one third of adults in the workforce have uncorrected vision problems, and through WellPartners, we can help them be more productive at work, be safer on the roads, and be able to help their children with homework.”

The grant totaling $47,733 will support services provided by WellPartners Adult Eye Clinic that was opened in February 2016 by United Way of the Midlands, Lexington Medical Center, and Prisma - Midlands to serve residents of Fairfield, Lexington and Richland counties without eye care insurance.

Since opening in February 2016 through June 30, 2018, WellPartners Adult Eye Clinic has provided more than 1,400 people with eye care services or corrective lenses. The eye clinic was opened to provide services including free comprehensive eye care, eye and vision exams, prescriptions, eyeglasses, dilations, Glaucoma screenings, refractions, retinal photography and visual field exams.
