Nearly 2400 Degrees, Diplomas, And Certificates To Be Awarded At MTC Commencement

Midlands Technical College will award almost 2,400 degrees, diplomas, and certificates to students from more than 120 academic programs. Eighty-nine percent of MTC graduates are employed or continuing their education within six months of graduation.

Eighty-five of these graduates are receiving associate degrees and certificates the same year of their high school graduation. This is the largest number of dual-enrollment graduates in the college’s history.

An Honorary Associate Degree in Humane Letters will be awarded to the late Honorable Ernest F. Hollings, retired United States Senator and former South Carolina Governor who was a founding force in the establishment of the South Carolina Technical College System. The award will be accepted by the senator’s son, Michael M. Hollings, J.D.

The commencement speaker is Lasenta Lewis-Ellis. Lewis, who earned an Associates of Engineering Technology in Architectural Engineering Technology from MTC and went on to become the founder and CEO of LLE Construction Group, LLC. She was recently recognized as the Outstanding Technical College Alumni by the South Carolina Technical Education Association. Enterprising Women Magazine selected her as the 2016 Enterprising Woman of the Year. The award is widely considered among the most prestigious recognition for female business owners.
