Tri-County Electric Cooperative Unveils Tri-County Global Industrial Site

Economic development on the I-26 corridor between Orangeburg and Columbia is getting a major boost with the opening of the new Tri-County Global Industrial Site.

Tri-County Electric Cooperative, in partnership with SC Power Team, officially unveiled its 380-acre industrial site just off I-26 and U.S. 601 with a presentation and luncheon on Friday, May 17.

The Orangeburg area’s newest rail-served site sits on the Norfolk Southern main line. A 45-acre building pad already is in place and the new industrial site also offers 500,000 gallons per day in excess water and wastewater capacity.

“We’re excited to now offer the Tri-County Global Industrial Site to industries that want to take advantage of the in-place infrastructure and ideal location close to major interstates such as 26, 95, 77, and 20, thriving airports in Columbia and Charleston, and one of the largest seaports in the country on Charleston Harbor,” said Chad Lowder, CEO of Tri-County Electric Cooperative.

“We’re proud to partner with Tri-County Electric Cooperative on this robust new industrial site, and we’re certain it will serve as another linchpin to the continuing economic and industrial growth of South Carolina,” said James Chavez, president and CEO of the SC Power Team, which represents the Palmetto State’s 20 electric cooperatives in their economic development efforts.

“This exciting new industrial site, the first of its kind in South Carolina and nearly 10 years in the making, is a shining example of the power of collaboration,” said Gregg Robinson, SCCED, executive director of the Orangeburg County Development Commission. He cited local and statewide partners including the Tri-County Electric Cooperative, SC Power Team, Santee Cooper, City of Orangeburg and its Department of Public Utilities, Orangeburg and Calhoun counties, and the S.C. Department of Commerce.
