Nexsen Pruet is honored to be named the 2018 Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year by the South Carolina Bar. At the organization’s recent House of Delegates meeting, the SC Bar recognized Nexsen Pruet’s bolstered pro bono program and the significant impact being made by firm attorneys throughout South Carolina.
According to a recent article published by the organization, “Through its reinvigorated pro bono program, attorneys from Nexsen Pruet have made a meaningful difference by assisting in the delivery of health care and human services in the Lowcountry, supplying legal support to veterans and their families, representing indigent clients before the S.C. Supreme Court and so much more. For these efforts and the firm’s overall commitment to pro bono in the Carolinas, Nexsen Pruet was recently named the SC Bar’s 2018 Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year.”
Nexsen Pruet’s attorneys have long understood the importance of choosing to support the communities in which they live and work. It is a commitment that dates back to the firm’s early years, when Julian Nexsen, for whom Nexsen Pruet is named, provided legal services free of charge to a wide range of charitable and nonprofit organizations in South Carolina.
“Through pro bono service, we can match unique legal needs in one part of the state with specialized skills located in one of our other offices,” said William Floyd, member and coordinator of Nexsen Pruet’s pro bono practice.
Nexsen Pruet attorneys provide pro bono services to citizens throughout the Carolinas and to organizations dedicated to delivering legal services to those less fortunate. Through the firm’s pro bono program, attorneys aim to identify pro bono clients who have both great limited means to hire legal counsel or may be facing insurmountable obstacles as they seek access to justice. Cases and matters span a wide range of practice areas and are handled by teams from all eight firm locations.
According to the organization, “SC Bar Pro Bono Awards are presented annually to a lawyer and/or law firm that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to volunteer legal services for the poor and disadvantaged. These services ensure that representation is provided to individuals and families in need of free civil legal assistance.”
