Dominion Energy South Carolina Earns American Gas Association Safety Award

Dominion Energy South Carolina was recently awarded a 2018 American Gas Association (AGA) Safety Achievement Award for outstanding commitment to gas employee safety during the 2019 AGA Operations Conference & Biennial Exhibition in Nashville, Tenn. The award is one of the natural gas industry’s highest safety honors.

"Our natural gas professionals work around the clock to operate and maintain thousands of miles of gas infrastructure from the Low Country to the heart of the Pee Dee," said Rusty Harris, vice president of gas operations for Dominion Energy South Carolina. "This award is a testament to the commitment our employees have to doing their work safely, implementing new practices, and bettering current ones. It speaks to their dedication to providing safe, reliable service that fuels our customers’ lives."

The Safety Achievement Award recognizes companies that experience the lowest Days Away, Restricted and Transferred (DART) incident rate. DART rate is a calculation that describes the number of recordable injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time employees that result in days away from work or restricted activity.

“Employees at natural gas utilities throughout the nation go to work each day with the sole purpose of keeping their customers and communities safe while delivering essential energy,” Lori Traweek, chief operating officer for the American Gas Association said. “AGA’s annual Safety Awards honor those who embody the dedication and professionalism that is the hallmark of our industry. Our award recipients have demonstrated, to an exemplary degree, the commitment to enhancing safety that is a core value for all of America’s natural gas utilities.”
