What is the one thing that you would want others to know about your company?

We operate with a very high level of integrity. NLR has corporate chaplains to help hold us to the highest of standards in addition to making sure our employees, agents and brokers and looked after.

What interview questions do you ask or what hiring techniques do you use to hire the right candidate?

A lot of our interview questions focus on how the prospect views his or her future. Some candidates will want their futures to remain much like their past. We look for individuals who are excited about their futures and the gains they want and expect. It's very important for us to understand their future vision and how we can help them get there.

How do you manage fast growth? What advice would you give to a company in growth mode?

It's great to grow fast and straight up, but don't grow wide. We started out trying to be all things to all people when it came to real estate. The recession took care of that and taught us the importance of selecting something you can be the best in the world at and sticking with it. For us that is land.

What lessons did you learn the hard way? If you could go back five or 10 years what advice would you tell yourself?

Look for the best talent available and then find a place on your team to put them that will allow them to use their unique skills.

Have you acquired or merged with a company as part of your growth plan? What advice would you give to a company considering the same?

Yes. Some mergers are easier than others, but the best advice we can give is that most mergers are not easy and you need a partner on the other side who is willing to work to get the merger to the finish line.

What marketing tips would you offer other companies?

Marketing is crucially important for companies like ours. Hire the best marketing team that you can afford and consider hiring them even if you can't afford them.
