University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville named Apple Distinguished School for 2019-2022

The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2019–2022 for its innovative implementation of Apple technology in the classroom and clinical learning environment. The school’s commitment to innovative medical technology in education ensures the next generation of doctors will serve as advocates for transforming health care delivery.

Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership and educational excellence that use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. They showcase innovative uses of technology in learning, teaching and the school environment, and have documented results of academic accomplishment.

“It is critical for our medical students to learn in an environment that leverages technology and encourages innovation,” says Dr. Angela Sharkey, senior associate dean for academic affairs. “Recognition as an Apple Distinguished School shines a light on our commitment to adopting the most advanced tools available in support of engaging our students in the classroom and in the clinical learning environment to enhance the learning experience of the next generation of doctors.”

The selection of UofSC School of Medicine Greenville as an Apple Distinguished School highlights its success as a compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment.

“The Integrated Technology department was created specifically to support the technology infrastructure of the medical school,” says Dan Garwood, department director. “Every School of Medicine Greenville student, faculty and staff member is issued an iPad in an effort to actively engage in creative teaching and learning.”

From apps which allow students to listen to the human heart or see human anatomy in 3D to engaging, interactive Apple Books made by faculty to bringing lessons to life, Apple technology helps the school achieve its strategic goal of driving innovation in teaching, research, patient care and community wellness.
