Rebecca Kirkland Halberg
Attorney, Collins & Lacy, P.C.

Rebecca Kirkland Halberg is a senior associate with Collins & Lacy, P.C., practicing in workers’ compensation. One of Columbia’s rising young professionals, Halberg was honored by the Rotary Club of Five Points as the 2008 Charles C. Foster Rotarian of the Year and was recently appointed to the board of directors of Kids’ Chance of South Carolina, a nonprofit that provides financial educational scholarships for dependents of seriously injured or deceased workers through the S.C. Workers’ Compensation Educational Association.

“The children of Columbia are the most valuable members of the community,” says Halberg. “My parents have always supported our family emotionally, spiritually and financially. I hope to one day share that same love and support with my own children and to encourage [Columbia’s] children to strive for success in their education. It will open doorways for them and for our community.”

“As an attorney, I get to spend my days helping the businesses and citizens that make South Carolina great. Columbia is filled with hard-working, civic-minded young professionals. They are creating a diverse and strong collaborative of individuals dedicated to enhancing and impacting positive change. If this momentum continues, Columbia can be the most talented, educated and entrepreneurial city in the Southeast. What needs to change is our attitude. I regularly hear people grumbling about living here. Until we change our attitude, outsiders are always going to think Greenville and Charleston are better. Columbia is a great city filled with opportunity. We need to spread the word.”
