Carri Grube Lybarker
Acting Administrator, South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs
After earning a B.A. in Political Science cum laude from Winthrop University and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Carri Grube Lybarker began her career with the S.C. Department of Consumer Affairs first as a law clerk, then as a staff attorney, and finally as Deputy Director of Public Information, Consumer Services and Education. She was promoted to Acting Administrator in February 2011.
“I thought of becoming an environmental lawyer at the age of 13, after deciding I was too blind to become a fighter pilot and too squeamish to become a veterinarian,” says Lybarker. “My experiences during college piqued my interest in international politics and the process of government. In law school I followed the environmental track, which coincided well with my government interest. I was lucky to gain a position as a law clerk at Consumer Affairs the summer before my third year. I enjoyed the work and mission of the agency and realized I wanted a job where I could use the law to help others.”
“My goal is to utilize my position and knowledge for the advancement and protection of others. I hope to empower and arm people with the knowledge of the laws and programs that exist to protect them. Columbians are not aware of all the resources at their fingertips. Thoughtful collaborations among local, state and federal authorities as well as local businesses could work to create a more aware, educated and productive community.”
