Some might think it a tad audacious to call your barbecue “bodacious” in a land where people can nearly come to blows over the age-old question of ketchup, mustard or vinegar. But when people suck the sauce off the ends of their fingers rather than reaching for a napkin, you know you’ve got something special. Bill and Rachel Gause believe they have found that something special and opened up RB’s Bodacious Barbecue on the first floor of the Bank of America building, in part, Bill said, because he was eager to be a part of the revitalization of Main Street.
He said the most important ingredient in their wildly popular business is an abiding faith in God, one so strong they literally felt led to open their barbecue restaurant. “I am passionate about all things barbecue. I put my heart and many years of research and testing in developing our rub, sauces and cooking techniques. I didn’t stop until it was above and beyond any barbecue I had tasted. Every day presents a challenge to be the best. One of the things that sets us apart is that we rub, then smoke our barbecue items, and we let our customers choose from our three signature sauces.”
While Gause has seen firsthand the effect of the soft economy on the food service sector, he said people always want quality for a good value.
If you can’t get to his restaurant to enjoy your “Q,” no worries; Gause delivers. As he has spread his barbecue throughout the city, his customers have spread the word about him. “Word of mouth is extremely important. We rely on positive customer comments to their friends more than anything else. We do take advantage of social media, and we have gotten good feedback from that,” he said.
