) – Having established Basil Thai Cuisine as one of the Southeast's most recognized full-service Asian restaurants in Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, and Charlotte, NC, brothers Henry and Chai Eang will soon bring their tremendously popular Thai concept to Columbia at the new Whole Foods-anchored retail center at Cross Hill Market.
"We have been very selective in searching for the right restaurant concept that would fit Cross Hill Market," said Lyle Darnall, Managing Director for EDENS. "The addition of Basil to Cross Hill is another example of EDENS' commitment to changing the face of retail in the Columbia market and creating environments that bring communities together."
Consistently named as one of the best restaurants in Charleston, Basil has gained a rabid culinary following in both Carolinas for offering innovative and fresh Thai dishes made from the traditional family recipes of Executive Chef Suntom Cherdchoogarm ("Chef Sunny"). Open for both lunch and dinner, Basil will offer an expansive menu of simple, flavorful Thai dishes that include house specialties; soups and salads; curries; noodles and rice along with a creative cocktail menu and a comprehensive wine list. The restaurant will also showcase Basil's chef counter seating where patrons can watch such specialties as pad Thai, basil duck, and three-flavored fish being freshly prepared right before their eyes.
"I believe the overwhelming consensus among our customers is that Basil is not your average Asian or Thai restaurant," said Chai Eang, co-owner of Basil. "We offer a high-quality, full-service menu that is rich in flavor and a restaurant that offers a complete dining experience."
Scheduled to open in October 2012, the 3,250 SF restaurant will feature the elegant and contemporary architectural design that Neil Stevenson Architects has created in Basil's other locations, including an expansive 1,250 SF outdoor patio space. Basil will seat approximately 100 people in the restaurant and bar with room for an additional 45 patrons in the courtyard patio.
Since opening their first restaurant in 2001, Eang and his brother have heard from many customers who have stated they make a special trip from Columbia to Charleston or Charlotte just to eat at Basil. "When we saw the project that EDENS was developing at Cross Hill Market, we knew it had the perfect design and retail mix to attract our existing fans as well as new customers who can appreciate our brand of fresh, flavorful food," said Eang.
Basil joins Cross Hill Market's other recently announced retailers that include Charleston Cooks!; Nadeau Furniture; M Boutique; Hand & Stone Massage and Facial; American Roadside Burger and Jamie Scott Fitness.
