Relic Room lecture deals with the 81st Division’s combat role in World War II

Allen Skinner – the command historian of the 81st from Fort Jackson – will deliver a free noon lecture about the division’s role in World War II, as part of the Columbia museum’s Lunch and Learn series.

Formed at Camp Jackson - now Fort Jackson - in 1917, the division was deactivated after World War I. In 1942 it was reactivated and deployed to the Pacific, where it played a key role in the Palau Islands in September 1944.
