Do you like your workplace? That’s a good feeling, isn’t it? If you are among the fortunate who can’t wait to get to work every day, we want to hear from you. If you are proud of your employer and want to share that pride, we want to hear from you. Do you have a great perk on the job that you want everyone to know about? Now’s your change to brag.

Columbia Business Monthly is ramping up for its second year of participating in the Top Workplaces program. This is a great opportunity to share how great your company is with the entire State of South Carolina. Employees offer the best barometer for how things really are at a company and we want to hear from you.

There is how it works. Any company or organization with 35 or more employees in South Carolina is eligible to participate. This can be public, private, nonprofit, or government. You may nominate your company in a variety of ways. Perhaps the easiest way is online via this link: http://www.topworkplaces.com/southcarolina. You may also do it over the phone by calling 854-501-9699.

WorkplaceDynamics, the research partner for the project, conducts Top Workplaces surveys for more than 40 major metro media partners and surveyed 2.8 million employees at nearly 7,000 organizations in 2016. The Top Workplaces program has been ranking employers across the U.S. since 2006. The benefits have been great for companies ranked in the program and research supports that. A survey published a few years ago in the Academy of Management Journal found that there are many benefits of participating in a third-party verification program. Among the survey’s conclusions were that turnover rates drop when organizations win such recognition. It also found that certifications improve job applicant pool quality.

Companies will be ranked in both small and large categories. Last year, the top finisher in the Large Companies category was Interim Healthcare of Greenville. They were followed by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices C. Dan Joyner Realtors, United Community Bank, and M.B. Kahn Construction. In the Small Companies category, the top finishers were eXp Realty, Creative Builders, Green Cloud Technologies, and Total Quality Logistics. As we did last year, we will include features in our April issue on the top finishers in each category.

Will your company make the list this year? Well, you first have to nominate, and it’s best not to procrastinate. Workplaces are evaluated by their employees using a short 24-question survey. Companies will be surveyed by WorkplaceDynamics October through January. The survey is easy to complete and measures a variety of aspects, including pay and benefits and perks. It also asks about your company’s values, mission, and culture.

“We are excited to be a part of the Top Workplaces program for a second year,” says Lori Coon, publisher of Columbia Business Monthly. “This offers companies a great chance for positive statewide recognition.”

Columbia Business Monthly, and our sister publications, Greenville Business Magazine and Charleston Business Magazine, will publish the list of winners and their stories in our April 2018 issues. That offers the chance for statewide coverage that can help with recruiting top employees. Our first year of participation in this program was highly successful and we want to make this year even better.

If you would like to participate, don’t delay. Remember, the deadline for nominations is Nov. 17.
