The Santee Cooper Board of Directors named Shawan Gillians treasurer. She has been serving in the interim since March 2017.

Gillians joined Santee Cooper in June 2011 as an attorney. In 2015, she was named associate general counsel, and she continues to provide legal guidance for the finance area on bond transactions and other matters.

“Shawan has knowledge in both the financial and legal aspects needed here at Santee Cooper,” said Jim Brogdon, interim president and CEO. “She’s worked extensively with Santee Cooper’s finance group, preparing her for this role.”

Gillians has a Bachelor of Arts in economics and religion from Wofford College, a Juris Doctor from the College of William and Mary, and a Master of Business Administration from University of South Carolina. In 2017, she received the Rising Star award from Wofford College. She serves on the board of directors at the Coastal Community Foundation and the Trident United Way Finance Committee and is a member of the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates and the South Carolina Bar Commission on Continuing Legal Education. Gillians is also a Fellow with the Riley Institute at Furman University’s Diversity Leadership Initiative and a Liberty Fellow.
