Bauknight Pietras & Stormer Forms Board Of Directors
Jan 31, 2019 10:15AM ● By Kathleen MarisBauknight Pietras & Stormer, P.A., (BPS), one of the Southeast’s premier accounting and consulting firms, has had significant growth since its founding in 1991, serving a growing clientele and employing some 50 CPAs and a total team of 70. To support this growth, BPS shareholders have established the firm’s first board of directors and elected shareholder Bryan Hudson as the board chair.
The move was motivated by a desire for formal governance, said BPS Managing Shareholder Russell Bauknight. “As we approach nearly three decades in business, the shareholders saw the need for additional structure in our approach to the firm’s overall strategy and decision making. BPS is now a leading regional firm with a client base that is increasingly specialized and often national in scope. We want to continue to grow and strengthen our position as a preferred tax and assurance consulting firm and employer. A board of directors, with Bryan as the board chair, gives us the leadership level oversight BPS needs to achieve our goals.”
Hudson, a BPS shareholder since 2013, joined the firm in 1999. He leads the firm's property and casualty insurance practice, which serves regional and national clients that include commercial carriers, mutual insurers, captive insurance, reciprocals, and risk retention groups domiciled throughout the United States. Hudson consults on a national basis with clients considering establishing captive insurance companies on the issues of feasibility, formation, operations, and governance.
Commenting on his board chair appointment, Hudson said, “BPS has achieved tremendous success over the last 28 years, but like every business, we need to continue to challenge ourselves to be proactive and strategic in an increasingly technology-driven business environment. I look forward to providing leadership and oversight on the BPS board and for our firm.”
Hudson brings extensive leadership experience to the BPS board. He currently serves as chairman of the board of directors of the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association and also serves on the board of the International Center of Captive Insurance Education based in Vermont. Hudson is the only CPA in public practice in South Carolina to earn the prestigious Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) designation. Hudson is a member of captive insurance associations in South Carolina, North Carolina, Delaware, and Vermont as well as the Captive Insurance Companies Association. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
