Mashburn Construction Announces New Downtown Hotel In Columbia

Another downtown building in Columbia is being renovated and transformed by Mashburn Construction. An existing 10-story building built in 1954 will become the new Holiday Inn at 1233 Washington Street. The hotel will offer 90 rooms and downtown experience unique to the Holiday Inn brand. The 47,544-square-foot hotel will include meeting space, fitness room, E-bar business center, and a full restaurant and bar within.

Mashburn Construction was chosen by owners of Lexington Hospitality, LLC, Raj Champaneri (COO), AJ Champaneri (CEO), and Nash Champaneri (principal) to perform a complete demolition and rebuild of the existing building. Their company is a family-owned hospitality company that specializes in development and management.

“Our team is dedicated to the successful hotel development and management of a unique and diverse collection of hotel projects,” says Raj Champaneri.

The Mashburn Construction team has installed new structural steel into the building which was previously an office building. Elements designed by Overcash Demmitt Architects (ODA) and inspired by the unique IHG branding, include sleek, clean furniture, and integration of the mid-century aesthetic with soft textures, bold colors, and historical neutrals.

Lee Mashburn, president of Mashburn Construction, says, “Not only are we fortunate to work with great partners like the Champaneri’s, but their vision to redevelop a blighted downtown office building supports our commitment to our local communities across the state.”

Mashburn Construction continues to “build better communities” by working with various hotel brands to build throughout the state of South Carolina as well as North Carolina.
