SCRA Announces New Members, Grant Funding

EHG South, FinSiteful, Incora Health, North 7th, Soil Economy, and Virtue Technologies were accepted as South Carolina Research Authority Member Companies.

Bricolage Dynamics, Borealis Global Advisory, Mainstage Gaming, and North 7th received new grant funding.

All SCRA Member Companies receive coaching, access to experts in SCRA’s Resource Partner Network, eligibility to apply for grant funding, and the potential to be considered for investment from SCRA’s investment affiliate, SC Launch Inc.

Borealis Global Advisory LLC received a $25,000 Project Development Fund Grant. The Blythewood-based fintech startup is a SaaS platform that officials say saves significant time and money for money managers. The platform allows managers to invest globally by leveraging advanced algorithms and visualization tools that provide real-time and actionable country-level insights.

Bricolage Dynamics Inc. received a $50,000 Acceleration Grant. The Liberty-based startup provides household waste collection services turning glass, otherwise bound for the landfill, into high-quality, sustainable sand for reuse in the local construction and landscaping industries.

EHG South Inc., DBA Momento Med, was accepted as an SCRA Member Company. The Columbia-based startup provides a web application that allows providers to support HIV medicine management for large groups of patients. The app combines pill reminders with motivational and educational text messages sent directly to the patient’s cell phone.

FinSiteful Inc. was accepted as an SCRA Member Company. The Swansea-based startup offers a web application for college and high school students to learn about, manage, and access money. The app provides real-time access to financial aid options, financial literacy tools, and scholarships and grants.

Incora Health Inc. was accepted as an SCRA Member Company. The Greenville-based startup patented a smart earring that tracks biodata without interrupting the user’s activities or sleep. The wearable accurately tracks core body temperature using machine learning and artificial intelligence, which provides women with reliable biometrics to help meet their maternal and wellness goals.

Mainstage Gaming Network Inc. received a $50,000 Acceleration Grant. The Rock Hill-based startup builds single platforms for organizations to create gaming events, tournaments, and leagues for gamers everywhere. Officials say the company is allowing organizations to create communities through inclusive and accessible opportunities in gaming.

North 7th Inc. was accepted as an SCRA Member Company and received a $50,000 Acceleration Grant. The Greenville-based startup provides virtual tours and marketing tools for the real estate market. Its services include photos, videos (3D available), aerial videos, virtual staging, and 2D and 3D floor plans.

Soil Economy LLC was accepted as an SCRA Member Company. The Greenville-based startup, from Bob Jones University, helps carbon registries and developers standardize and improve how they measure carbon levels in soil. Its research team provides a unified standard to verify and sell carbon credits.

Virtue Technologies Inc., DBA VirtueScript, was accepted as an SCRA Member Company. The Chapin-based startup developed an app that helps post-acute providers better manage medication services for their patients. Officials say VirtueScript is also designed to lower pharmacy reimbursement costs by improving staff efficiencies, reducing waste, and increasing patient satisfaction.

Grant funding is made possible, in part, by the Industry Partnership Fund contributions that fuel the state’s innovation economy. Contributors to the IPF receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit.

SC Academic Innovations provides funding and support to advance translational research and accelerate the growth of academic startups. SC Facilities offers high-quality laboratory and administrative workspaces for technology-based startups and academic institutions. SC Industry Solutions facilitates and funds technology advancements and partnerships with industry, startups, and academic institutions. SC Launch mentors and funds technology-based startups that may also receive investments from SCRA’s investment affiliate, SC Launch, Inc.

DC BLOX Breaks Ground on Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station, Dark Fiber Route

DC BLOXa provider of multi-tenant data centers, dark fiber, and connectivity solutions that delivers infrastructure for digital businesses, announced the groundbreaking on its new international subsea cable landing station (CLS) in Myrtle Beach, SC.

In addition, a new dark fiber route linking Myrtle Beach with the connectivity hub of the Southeast in Atlanta is also under construction.

The 15 megawatt CLS is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2023, while the fiber route will be completed in the first quarter 2024.

DC BLOX’s nearly 500-mile dark fiber route will be the first, high-capacity East-to-West fiber path from South Carolina through Georgia.

It will connect from the Myrtle Beach CLS, through Charleston, Augusta, and Atlanta landing in Lithia Springs, Ga., with eight strategically located network aggregation facilities enabling regional cloud computing, wireless services, local content distribution and broadband access to underserved areas in both South Carolina and Georgia.

The CLS facility in Myrtle Beach will be connected to five pre-positioned ocean bore pipes configured for up to five subsea cables originating from other continents.

DC BLOX’s data centers are located in Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AL; Huntsville, AL; Chattanooga, TN; and Greenville, SC.

Brightwood Capital Advisors Leads Senior Secured Credit Facility to Support Orangewood Partners’ Acquisition of Barrington James

Brightwood Capital Advisors, a leading private credit firm, announced that it acted as sole lead arranger and administrative agent to provide a senior secured credit facility in support of Orangewood Partners’ acquisition of Barrington James.

Founded in 2002, Barrington James provides life sciences companies with recruitment solutions that combine industry expertise with innovative recruitment technology to make talent identification and attraction easier.

The company’s specialist areas range from artificial intelligence, biometrics, and clinical development to finance, medical affairs, commercial, quality assurance and computational sciences.

This Is South Carolina's Favorite Pie This Holiday Season!

Wisevoter, a bipartisan educational platform, delved into America’s favorite pie by state and Pecan pie gets the most slices of America - winning the hearts of 15 states, followed by Apple pie with 14 states as the runner up. 

South Carolina's choice of pie this year seems to be apple pie. The data was analyzed by search results by state and comparing different types of pie to figure out which tops each state this year.

According to the favorite pie index, the most popular pies in South Carolina ranked in order of popularity in 2022 were:

1. Apple

2. Peanut Butter

3. Pumpkin

4. Blueberry

5. Key Lime.
