I’m Neviar Rawlinson, founder of GRC Explained and an IT governance manager passionate about making Governance, Risk, and Compliance more accessible to professionals at every stage of their careers. As an Army veteran, technology leader, and Ph.D. candidate in artificial intelligence, I’ve built my career around solving complex problems, improving processes, and helping organizations manage risk while embracing innovation. One of my greatest passions is creating opportunities for others. Through GRC Explained, I provide practical education, mentorship, and career resources that help people confidently transition into technology and GRC careers — many of whom never believed they belonged in the field. My long-term goal is to become a nationally recognized leader in AI governance while continuing to expand access to high-quality education and workforce development. Giving back means opening doors for others. Whether I’m mentoring career changers, speaking at conferences, or building educational programs, I believe true success is measured by the opportunities we create for those who come after us.
Favorite Quote and Why: "God will make room for your gifts and bring you before great people." — Proverbs 18:16
Definition of a Successful Leader: A successful leader creates more leaders, not more followers. Leadership is about serving others, removing obstacles, and helping people reach their full potential. The best leaders inspire trust, lead with integrity, remain humble enough to keep learning, and create environments where others feel empowered to grow and succeed.
Advice to 18-Year-Old Self: Stop worrying about having your entire life figured out. Every challenge, setback, and unexpected opportunity will prepare you for something greater. Don't be afraid to ask questions, take risks, or change directions. Most importantly, believe in yourself before others do, because confidence often opens doors before experience does.
