Fun Facts for Valentine’s Day

Saturday is Valentine’s Day, and the U.S. Census Bureau has offered some fun facts about its history in honor of the holiday.

Did you know:

·        Feb. 14 was named Valentine’s Day in A.D. 496 by Pope Gelasius I

·        In 2023, California and Pennsylvania had the most chocolate makers per state, with 122 for California and 121 for Pennsylvania

·        Esther Howland of Massachusetts is credited with selling the first mass-produced Valentine’s Day cards, in the 1840s

·        In 2010, the median age for first marriage in the United States was 29 for men and 27 for women. In 2024, it was 31 for men and 29 for women.
