Google is investing $9 billion in South Carolina through 2027 to expand its data center infrastructure in the state, deliver programs to protect energy affordability and train the local workforce for careers in the state’s growing tech and energy sector, Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of Alphabet and Google, said in a LinkedIn post.
“This investment helps support job growth in South Carolina as it benefits from the upside of AI. Google is proud to build on our 15 years of work in the Palmetto State to help secure its success during the next wave of American innovation,” Porat said.
Googe officials said the funding will expand their Berkeley County data center campus and support the continued construction of two new sites in Dorchester County, strengthening the state's role as a critical hub for American infrastructure.
To ensure South Carolinians can access the opportunities created by the growth, company officials said they’re also providing a Google.org grant to the Electrical Training Alliance (etA).
The grant will help integrate AI tools into etA’s training, preparing more than 160 apprentices for careers in the state's growing tech and energy sector, the officials said.
“As we deepen our roots in the Palmetto State, we’re creating new jobs, helping to power the state's digital economy for years to come, and advancing the U.S. as a world leader in AI innovation,” they said in a statement.
The Wall Street Journal reported Oct. 14, 2025, that since 2007, Google has invested more than $4.5 billion in South Carolina, with this new plan significantly increasing that commitment.
The latest announcement comes on the heels of a number of Google's major ongoing infrastructure investments across the U.S., as well as recent international investments in the UK, Belgium and other countries.
