Monday, Sept. 7, is Labor Day, an event that both celebrates working Americans and marks the unofficial end of summer.
The world of work has changed greatly since the Industrial Revolution of the 1800s, when work hours were not limited by law and child labor was commonplace. During that decade, workers began demonstrating in support of changing the law to address unsafe working conditions and fair hours and pay.
According to History.com, the first Labor Day parade in the United States took place in New York City in September 1882, but Labor Day wasn't made an official holiday until President Grover Cleveland signed it into law in 1894.
These days, Labor Day often means a day off from work, a trip to the lake, or a picnic with friends and family.
Integrated Media Publishing offices will be closed on Monday in observance of the holiday. The Business Narrative will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
We wish you a safe and enjoyable Labor Day!
