While South Carolina and Hollywood are thousands of miles apart, the state continues to make its mark on the film industry.

Among the evidence: the seventh annual Reedy Reels Film Festival, which unspools this weekend in Greenville.

Independent filmmakers from South Carolina and beyond will showcase their work at the three-day event, which kicks off April 22 at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre, 153 Augusta St.

More than 60 original films will be screened, a mix of documentary, animation, short films, and student films.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Friday with an opening reception, followed by a screening of six films, including the documentary “Sacred Waters: The Okefenokee in Peril.”

Among the South Carolina-produced films on the agenda are “Cry or Die or Do Better: A John Jenrette Story,” a look at the former South Carolina politician; “Myles Berrio: From Surviving to Thriving,” about a young man’s life-changing car accident; and “On the Eve of Destruction,” a short film set in 1930s France.

In addition to the film screenings, there will be workshops, panel discussions, and Q&As with filmmakers.

The festival concludes with an 8:30 p.m. awards presentation on April 24.

Festival tickets options include three-day passes for $85, single-day passes for $35, and $12 for single-session tickets. Student tickets are $10.
