Robert Hughes III has worked with the family-owned Hughes Development Corporation since 2012, stepping into the role of president in 2016. Hughes Development Corporation has played an important role in developing downtown Greenville, including Greenville ONE, RiverPlace, and Poinsett Plaza. Hughes himself was a key player in the redevelopment of Columbia’s 181-acre BullStreet District, which blends office space, retail shops, dining establishments, and apartment living spaces. He holds an undergraduate degree from Duke University and an MBA from Columbia University. Before joining Hughes Development Corporation, he was an assistant vice president at Lehman Brothers. Hughes has served on the boards of Artisphere, the Upstate Heart Ball, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, South Carolina’s Institute of Medicine & Public Health, ISCS’s Government Relations & Public Policy Committee, and the Palmetto Business Forum. He is a graduate of Leadership Greenville Class 40 and the 2020 Class of Aspen Institute’s Liberty Fellowship. He and his wife Scottie live in Greenville with their two children.
