Wingard’s Market Partners with Columbia Green to Donate Trees

Wingard’s Market is giving Midlands residents another reason to plant a tree this fall. Throughout October, Wingard’s is partnering with Columbia Green for its “Plant a Purpose” initiative, donating one tree for every five trees sold to support Columbia Green’s “Beat the Heat” campaign.

The monthlong initiative, running through Oct. 31, encourages residents to invest in their own landscapes while helping bring more trees and shade to communities across the Midlands. The partnership supports Columbia Green’s ongoing “Beat the Heat” campaign, which works to increase tree coverage and combat the effects of rising temperatures in urban neighborhoods.

Since 2024, the program has distributed more than 1,800 free shade trees, helping residents create cooler, greener and healthier communities.

For nearly six decades, Wingard’s Market has helped generations of Midlands families create beautiful outdoor spaces. Recently named the 2026 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice winner for Best Plant Nursery, the family-owned business is turning its passion for gardening into another opportunity to give back to the community.

“Planting a tree is one of the simplest things you can do that makes a difference for generations,” said Wally Steinhauser, co-owner of Wingard’s Market. “Trees make our neighborhoods more beautiful, help cool our homes and yards, and improve the air we breathe. We wanted to do something that would encourage people to plant trees in their own yards while also helping Columbia Green get more trees into the community. It’s a win for everybody.”

Customers can participate simply by purchasing trees at Wingard’s Market during October. For every five trees sold, Wingard’s Market will donate one tree to Columbia Green in support of the campaign. Whether customers are looking to add shade, improve curb appeal or create a more inviting backyard, every tree purchased helps make a difference.
