Landmark Properties, a real estate firm specializing in development, construction, investment management, and operation of residential communities, has acquired a 22.35 acre site at 1401 Shop Road in Columbia, SC for the development of The Walk on Shop Road, an 825-bed, 196-unit townhome-style student housing project less than a mile from the University of South Carolina.
Landmark will develop the project in partnership with Silverpeak Real Estate Partners.
The in-house general contractor for Landmark Properties, Landmark Construction, will build the project, with Niles Bolton Associates serving as architect.
Construction will begin imminently and is expected to be completed in time for the 2027-2028 academic year.
“Landmark Properties is happy to announce this latest development serving the University of South Carolina – and the first in our new brand line, The Walk,” said Jason Doornbos, Chief Development Officer of Landmark Properties. “Just steps from Williams-Brice Stadium with easy access to the campus, the community will bring much needed housing to the Columbia market as the university’s enrollment surpasses 40,000 students.”
The site is adjacent to the tailgating lots reserved for fraternities and sororities.
Offering a unique mix of two- to six-bedroom units, The Walk on Shop Road will offer fully furnished residences with quartz countertops, hardwood-style laminate floors, stainless-steel appliances, and private baths for each bedroom.
The units also provide in-unit laundry, large closets, and will come prewired for high-speed internet and cable access.
Amenities at The Walk on Shop Road will include a resort-style swimming pool, a Jumbotron, cabanas and hammocks, firepits and grilling areas, a fitness center, sports simulator, lawn games, and a wellness suite.
The property will also feature bike racks, a campus shuttle bus, and professional on-site management.
